We’re delighted to announce that David FitzGerald has become Patron of our Charity. We were seeking someone with a local presence, and David fits the bill perfectly.

David started work in local radio in 1980 and joined Television South West in 1986 and an announcer, news reader and worked with Gus Honeybun! He then moved onto work on several series for Anglia Television, Channel Television, HTV and then joined Sky News as a news anchorman.

From O.J. Simpson to Diana to Bosnia, David was at the front of nearly ever disaster for nine years. This uncanny knack for being in the right place at the ‘wrong time’ even got him into Trivial Pursuit as a question.

He produced television series on diverse topics as farming, The Red Arrows, Devon & Cornwall Police and supermarkets. His last Red Arrow series won The International Olympic Committee’s award of excellence.

In the past he has written for Spitting Image and has had five children’s books published written with Falklands veteran, Simon Weston CBE. He is touring with a stage show telling Simon’s life story. He now works for the BBC in the South West on BBC Radio Devon and BBC Spotlight.

He is also a patron of The Devon Air Ambulance, The Royal British Legion and Heartswell.
